Administering Facebook Promotions Made Easier

Sep 26 2013

In the past, Facebook’s rules have made it difficult for businesses to run promotional contests on their Facebook walls. To the joy of community managers everywhere, Facebook recently made drastic changes to their Page Terms, making it easier than ever for businesses to create and administer promotions.

Here are some key changes Facebook has made and how it can benefit your business marketing:

  • Promotions no longer have to be run through a third-party application. This means that any business with a Facebook page can run contests and promotions on their own timelines. However, brands are still prohibited from administering promotions on personal Timelines.
  • Likes and comments can now be utilized as a voting mechanism. Businesses admins can collect entries for contests by asking friends to like, comment, or message the page.
  • Pages now prohibit tagging, or encouraging tagging, of content that they are not actually depicted in. This means that people are allowed to comment or submit suggestions in exchange for a product, but it is prohibited to ask people to tag themselves or others in exchange for a prize.

With these changes, marketers are encouraged to experiment with promotional contests to identify which promotion type elicits the most community engagement. Here are a few tips to make the most out of your Facebook Promotions:

Your contests should be designed around building brand awareness, selling your product, promoting events, or advancing other business objectives.

When creating content for your promotions be sure to use compelling texts and images that promote your brand and capture your audience’s attention.

Offer an upside, or benefit to your audience to encourage engagement.

Once you have a promotion in place, be sure to amplify it as much as possible across your brand platforms.

Take advantage of these new Facebook guidelines and administer a promotion to increase your brand awareness today!
