4th of July Recommended Reads: Digital Marketing Edition

Jul 01 2015

With the holiday weekend approaching, some of our readers may have some surely well-deserved down-time to catch up on their reading. Despite the emergence of new media consumption platforms every day, I still find myself drawn to blogs. My preferred method of consumption is via the Feedly platform on my mobile phone. Feedly does a great job of transforming RSS feeds from your favorite domains into a photograph and quick summation for each article. I have created a folder specifically for my favorite digital marketing feeds and overtime, have narrowed down to a few tried and true that I’d like to share with you this 4th of July.

1. Hubspot

Hubspot is a marketing automation and CRM platform and their content is fueled by evangelists following the philosophy of people-centric inbound marketing. They really drink their own Kool-Aid, and the content is rock-solid. They have three primary blogs with articles focused on each respective audience. These blogs are great examples of customer segmentation!

2. Marketo

Marketo is a marketing automation and revenue management platform with a focus on the Enterprise sector, but SMB’s can still find great value in their shared best-practices. Their platform specific marketing-automation content can also typically be applied to other marketing automation platforms.

3. Jeff Bullas Blog

Jeff Bullas is a very prolific blog author, with good, timely content. I was first introduced to Jeff’s blog when I joined Mambo, and 4 years later he’s still kept his finger on the pulse of digital trends.

4. Social Media Examiner

Social Media Examiner Blog is (surprise!) social media specific, but their content focuses on social media as an interconnected element of a marketing mix, and is relevant to those outside of the social media team. They regularly feature a number of guest bloggers and they also have an awesome podcast.

5. Occam’s Razor by Avinash Kaushik

Avinash Kaushik literally wrote the book(s) on analytics, but if two best sellers aren’t enough to convince you he knows his analytics, check out his long-form blog posts. He often focuses on Google Analytics, but regardless of your preferred analytics platform, his general concepts on the buyer’s journey, and measuring the right metrics can be applied to any platform.

6. ReadWriteWeb

RWW has the most varied content compared to others on this list, but they closely follow relevant trends and some of the best marketing ideas come from non-marketing material!

7. Seth Godin Blog

Most marketers are familiar with Seth Godin, and his many bestselling books including The Icarus Deception, Linchpin, Small is the New Big and many others. His blog consists of simple, yet often profound musings that shed light into Godin’s thought process. Seth’s blog can be quite thought-provoking!
